Songwriting

One of my loves is singing and songwriting. In these pages I have placed some songs that I have written over the years. Some of them are collaborations, and I have credited my co-writers at the appropriate places.

One-Take Turtles
Odd name for a band, isn’t it? The name came about because in a recording session I made a blunder … instead singing “fertile land” I sang “turtle land”, and we broke out laughing. I think I’m a wee bit dyslexic. And “One-Take” came about because the members are so synergistic that often only needed one take to record a new song – with no practices either.

There are four of us in One-Take Turtles. Jim McLaren, Vince Wyse and humble self. As you can see in the photos, we’re over the hill guys. But we really enjoy making music. Jim, by the way, has a heart of a young woman – he’s a heart transplant. Jim plays wonderful bass. Vince hailed from Nova Scotia. He plays drums. The fourth member, Patrick Yapp, does not play any musical instruments – he plays the recording equipment. We call him doctor because he can fix our mistakes like a charm! And oh…we’re so grateful to have the use of Patrick’s home studio situated in his home basement.

Please listen to our recordings, and give us your fair critiques.
